As we all know, only few days back Google introduced the developer preview of New OS Android L. The preview is achievable for the users of nexus 5 and nexus 7. Many nexus users have updated their device with the latest OS and many are still updating.
If you just newly updated your Nexus device with the latest OS and want to know the simplest way to root Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 on the Android L Preview then this tutorial is going to help you a lot. Complete credit goes to XDA Senior Recognized Developer Chainfire who revealed the new script to root Android L Preview.
The rooting process is justly simple, but there are a few conditions which you need to follow. With this process, you will need to have a custom recovery installed and then SuperSu and finally a script.

Important Note: Please....keep in mind, before following this quick guide do take the backup of your device. And after the rooting you will lose your device's warranty, so proceed at your own risk.

Root Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 on Android L Preview
Step (1): Firstly, unlock the bootloader of your nexus device (whether it's Nexus 5 or Nexus 7). If you don't know how to unlock bootloader of your nexus devices then read this guide.
Step (2): After that, enable USB Debugging, to enable: Go to the settings and tap on About Phone option. In here, again scroll down to the bottom and tap on Build Number 7 times.
After tapping 7 times on Build Number, you’ll see a notification message on screen like "You are now a developer". Now go to the Developer Options and tick out the box next to USB Debugging, finally press on OK.
Step (3): Download ADB files (For: Windows users, Mac users and Linux users) in your PC and extract the folder on your desktop.
Step (4): After that, download the recovery for your nexus device. I would like to recommend TWRP or Clockworkmod Recovery, from here choose the Nexus device and download the recovery on your computer. Rename the downloaded file to recovery.img
Step (5): Now move the renamed recovery.img file to the ADB folder that you have downloaded on above step (step 3).
Step (6): Now, switch off the Nexus device and boot it in fastboot mode. To boot in fastboot mode:
In Nexus 7: you will have to switch off the Nexus device and simply press the Volume down + Power button.
In Nexus 5: you will have to switch off the Nexus device and simultaneously press the Volume up + Volume down + Power button. This action will redirect you into Bootloader mode.
Step (7): Connect your Nexus device to the computer with USB cable.
Step (8): Now, open the ADB folder on the desktop. Hold Shift key on your keyboard and make a Right click and select “Open command window here”.
Step (9): The command prompt window will appear, here you need to enter the below mentioned command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Step (10): This command will install the recovery on your device. Use volume button for selecting the “Restart bootloader” option and then press the Power button.
Wow, you are done! The recovery is installed successfully and next you have to root you Nexus device.
Step (11): Now, download SuperSU v2.00 (patched for Android L update) and Boot file to fix the binary issues: Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013
Step (12): Copy these downloaded SuperSU and Boot files to a secure location on your device.
Step (13): After that, switch off your Nexus device and boot it in recovery mode. Press the Volume Down + Power button together until the device begin showing START written along with an arrow around it. Press Volume Down twice until it shows the recovery option, and then press the Volume Up key to enter recovery mode.
Step (14): Now, select Install zip >>> Choose zip from sdcard >>> browse to the location where you saved the file and from here select the SuperSU file. Flash SuperSU first and similarly flash the Boot files in the same way.
Step (15): Finally, reboot your nexus device. You need to go back to the main menu of recovery and simply select reboot system now.
Your device will now restart. The first boot may take few moments to complete, so no need to be worry, please wait until the nexus device boots to the homescreen.
