Few years back when very less percent of
people were using internet and no any web mapping service was available then
people faced much difficulty to know the appropriate directions, location and
distance. But when Google Maps rolled out, all the people became surprised to know
about its enjoyable and useful features.
I think there is no need to give basic
introduction about Google Maps because we all are well familiar with it now.
According to the news of telegraph, about more than a billion peoples use
Google Maps every month and more than a billion searches made in a day. But most of the people still don't know
about how to use Google Maps more efficiently.
Maximum peoples use only few features of
Google maps because either they are unknown from the various interesting
features of Google maps or they never tried to know more about it. So in this
article, I am going to explain how to use Google Maps more perfectly. Here’s
how:
How To Use Google Maps More perfectly
(1) How to Save Directions
Usually people searches direction from
home address to somewhere else or from work address to somewhere else, and so
Google Maps provides a best option to make your search easier is Save
Directions. To save your direction you have to follow below instructions:
- Firstly, click on my places button.
- Now click on Set home location link and enter home address.
- Similarly, click on Set work location link and enter work address.
- After entering addresses, Save both and refresh the page once.
Now whenever you will want to search from
these addresses then no need to enter again, you have to only click on
drop-down menu from search box and select according to your wish as shown in
screenshot.
(2) How to Get Walking Directions
If you are thinking that Google Maps only allow you to get driving directions then you should know that you can find walking or public transit directions also. To get walking you will have to follow these simple steps:
- Firstly, enter your destinations (To and From) as usual you do.
- Now click on the above shown walking sign.
- Finally click on Get Direction button.
If Walking Directions is available in your area then you will be able to see walking sign just above the destination box otherwise you will be able to see the sign of Bus, car etc. One of the best profits of viewing Walking Directions is, it provides you the shortest path direction for your destination.
(3) How to star Favourite Spots
Many time people want to mark their
favourite or memorable locations during viewing in maps such as sports place,
restaurant, park, market etc. If you also want to mark your favourite locations
then you can mark by clicking on the ‘Star’ symbol.
If you wish to see all your favourite
locations (which you have stared) then you can view them by clicking to my
places button and then on Starred button.
(4) How to get Link for Your Direction
If you searched some directions on Google
maps and found few shortest ways then may be you will wish to share that
directions with your friends. You can send your obtained direction just as a
link. To get link for your direction:
- At first enter all the directions and click on Get direction.
- Now click on the ‘Link’ icon situated just next to the ‘Print’ icon as shown in below screenshot.
- From here, copy the link and send it to your friends. Second link you can use to embed that direction on your Blog or website.
(5) How to add multiple Destinations
Many people think that they can search
only one destination at a time and they search also. But you should know that
you can search multiple Destinations at a time. To search several Destinations:
- Firstly, click on get directions button and add Destinations as usually you do.
- To add multiple Destinations click on Add Destination link.
- Now add Destinations according to your wish and finally click on blue get directions button to view directions.
(6) How to Save Maps for Offline Mode
Unfortunately, this feature is only
available for smartphone users. If you
have limited internet connectivity and want to access a map then you will have
to tap on the search box, scroll down all the way up from earlier suggestions
and just select the option of “Make this map area available offline”.
(7) How to Find Out More With
"What's Here?"
During browsing Google Maps people uses
zooming or Search nearby function to view nearer location or exact place but you
should know that you can easily find an area or even just a building by the use
of what’s here option.
- Make a right-click on the map (the place you wish to find) and select the option of” What’s Here?” from the menu.
- Just after selecting Maps will pull up a list of all the places in the vicinity you have requested.
(8) How to Create a Custom Map
Creating a Custom Map is really very
interesting part of Google maps. You can also create your own custom map using
with descriptive text, adding rich text and HTML, photos and videos etc. To get started with it, you will have to
click on "My places" menu from the top-right side of your screen and
click on "Create Map."
